Making Your New Year’s Resolution A Reality

It’s 2012.  You’ve made your New Year’s resolutions and set some fitness goals.  But the next 365 days will be full of distractions and misinformation that can lead you away from making your resolutions a reality.  So here are a five helpful hints and ideas to help navigate you through 2012 to make it a successful year.

DO YOUR RESEARCH
There’s always going to be a new fad diet or exercise that it seems everyone is talking about and that they swear works.  Don’t get caught up in the hype.  Do your research before you start something new to make sure it’s right for you, your lifestyle, and your goals.

EVERYTHING IN MODERATION
This applies to food, exercise, rest, and pretty much everything else you can think of.  Don’t underestimate the importance of moderation and a balanced life.

REMOVE TIME SUCKERS
Be careful how much time you spend watching TV and web browsing.  They seem to consistently be the two main culprits of ways to waste your time.  And watch out for friends and acquaintances at the gym that want to chat instead of exercise.  That’s your time to better yourself.

GET ORGANIZED
Schedule out your day, your month and even your year the best you can.  Make a habit of writing down or putting into your electronic calendar appointments, workouts, etc.  If you have your workouts planned in advance, you’re much more likely to follow the plan and ultimately get to your goal.

IF IT’S SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO DO OR SHOULD NEVER DO, IT’S PROBABLY NOT TRUE
There are few absolutes and definites in this world.  Be wary of people and/or programs who say their way is the ONLY way to do things: foods you should never eat; exercises to always do; and that must buy item.  Think things through and don’t just trust the “expert.”

Make this the year you achieve your resolutions.  Have a happy and successful new year.    And, as always, Be an Athlete!
